Field Work & Services

Applied Wildlife Tracking & Field Support

My work focuses on applied wildlife tracking, ecological observation, species detection, and biological field support throughout California and the western United States. With over two decades of field experience in remote and rugged environments, I specialize in locating and interpreting wildlife sign in support of conservation, research, and ecological understanding.

I have worked professionally with universities, government agencies, conservation organizations, and private groups conducting wildlife surveys, camera trapping projects, species detection work, tracking operations, and backcountry field support.

Professional Experience

Professional field experience includes work for or in collaboration with:

  • University of California, Berkeley

  • National Park Service

  • California Department of Fish & Wildlife (CDFW)

  • Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST)

  • California State Parks

  • Private conservation and research organizations

Areas of Field Experience

Wildlife Tracking & Sign Interpretation

Extensive experience locating, interpreting, and documenting wildlife sign across a variety of ecosystems and terrain types. Field work has most recently focused on mapping the point Reyes Mountian beaver but has also included tracking large carnivores, locating predation sites for data collection, identifying movement corridors, and assisting with capture-related tracking operations (I am not currently a capture lead)

Experience includes:

  • Large carnivore tracking

  • Backtracking wildlife movement

  • Predation site investigations

  • Track and sign interpretation

  • Species presence/absence detection

  • Movement pattern analysis

  • Remote off-trail navigation and field travel

Biological Surveys & Species Detection

Experience conducting wildlife detection and monitoring work focused on elusive, difficult-to-detect, and rare mammal species in rugged terrain and remote landscapes.

Field work has often involved remote backcountry travel, off-trail survey work, and low-impact observation methods in difficult terrain and environmental conditions.

Camera Trapping & Wildlife Monitoring

Experience deploying and monitoring trail camera systems for wildlife detection, species inventory, behavioral observation, and conservation-related monitoring projects.

Applications have included:

  • Rare species detection & Behavior Documentation

  • Carnivore monitoring

  • Wildlife movement documentation

  • Habitat use analysis

  • Long-term remote monitoring

  • Site selection and camera placement strategy
